Intern horror stories part 1

You thought you had it bad! Cathy Horyn interviewed a few designers about various bits and bobs, but came out with this golden nugget of information about how designers treat their interns.

This came from the land of Proenza Schouler, who for some reason thought this was funny. They flew an intern to Italy (from New York) to collect fabric. Then without waiting for her to at least have a fag and a diet coke - they made her turn around and get back on the plane.....

'She thought it was so glamourous to fly to Italy. But she wasn't going to be leaving the airport. As soon as she landed someone would be there to hand her the package of fabric and she would board a flight back to New York.'

Okay, being an intern is not fun. It's horrible, stinky and degrading work - without motion sickness and jet lag being thrown in there. It's not really cool that designers are advertising how badly they treat their interns, as if they are a piece of meat to them. This poor girl more then likely did think it was cool to fly to Italy - who wouldn't? - but physically that must have been really hard on her. I mean, that's not a short flight.

Not cool....Anyone got any intern/ work experience horror stories?
