Prada brought to court after woman stains skirt with champagne.....no seriously.

I have quite literally heard it all now......

Prada have been successfully brought to court by a woman after she spilled champagne on her Prada skirt and it was permanently stained. No seriously!

Catherine Whitty argues that the Prada staff knew she was going to a champagne birthday party (her own) and should have advised her that there was a chance that the skirt could not be worn for such an occasion.

When Whitty took the garment to a dry cleaners she was told that the garment was unable to be cleaned and could be stained by rain or any splashes of water. The issue here was that the garment was labelled that it could be dry cleaned. Fair enough, the staff did give her her money back (£1,000) but is this fair?

I'm sorry but I worked in retail for years and this just seems a little excessive. Fair enough on the refund front - if the skirt is labelled as dry clean only and you can't dry clean it - then that seems fair that the shop should offer a refund. However, taking the matter to court and making a show of it in magazines (this story comes directly from Marie Claire) seems excessive to me.

If the garment is as delicate that it would get destroyed by water or rain then I see that as crazy to spend that amount of money on such a thing. It's a silk item which explains it. However, being unable to dry clean it is a bollocks. You got your money back - give over! Having worked for high street, designer and upmarket brands in the past - I can honestly tell you that staff do not have the time to have knowledge like this. If it says dry clean on the label then staff will accept that this is fact and tell you as much. It is not their fault if a label doesn't actually reveal the truth. Also, I'd like to know how many dry cleaners she went to......
