RuPaul's Drag Race season six runner-up and American Idol finalist Adore Delano is set to unleash her anticipated sophomore album After Party next month, after spending most of 2014 and 2015 promoting an impressive eight official singles (with music videos) from her debut effort Til Death Do Us Party. That debut album eventually became the highest charting project from a Drag Race alum on Billboard when it debuted and peaked at number 59. For her follow up, Delano sticks with an 80s dance vibe for "Dynamite", the upcoming album's official lead single.
"Dynamite" steers clear of the comedic and campy inspirations of Delano's previous singles ("DTF", "Hello, I Love You") and grabs on to the mysterious and seductive pop nature of past James Bond film theme songs. The alluring charm of the recently released single is its strong point, as is the confident, enticing vocal performance from the self-proclaimed Libra mermaid. Instead of a loud, radio-tailored tune, Delano goes in the direction of previous mid-tempo ballad "I Adore U", a song that put her on the mainstream map, but with a bit more upbeat approach. Smart move.
As the lead offering from an upcoming album, the new single does a damn good job. A captivating, slightly muffled, vocal lead in ("taking me higher"), proves an effective introduction for when Delano finally chimes in about having her eyes on the prize. In fact, Delano is hunting her man until he gives in to her advances. Not very subtle. "You got me running, I can't catch my breathe, watching you move, got me acting obsessed, what's got to happen to get you undressed, you're on fire," she croons.
While Delano sings about the concerns and reservations that come with pursuing her love interest, she's willing to take on risk on "Dynamite". On top of the multiple genre influences of the new song – dance, pop, house – there's a new found sense of self-assurance in the delivery and production of Delano's provocative, successful new sound. The artist appears to be getting more serious about her place in the music industry, releasing tracks that go above and beyond the confines of "drag" music. The only problem is the short time length.
To support "Dynamite", Delano had the opportunity of premiering the dark and slinky music video over at Nylon. The exhilarating visual appears to be an homage to the sexual power of Bond's female companions and adversaries, which perfectly links to the dangerous, gritty undertones of the actual song. As Delano makes her way through a sweaty nightclub, surrounded by chiseled men and with an innocent sex kitten image at the forefront, she locks eyes on her helpless target and refuses to give up. It's the perfect companion piece.
With After Party set for a March 11 release, Delano also shared album tracks "Foreign Lover" and "I Can't Love You"as pre-order gifts to get fans' blood pumping. It's certainly doing the trick. PARTY!
